Every day we are confronted with pornography. It comes through comments, such as those heard recently on Good Morning America commiserating with a high school student for not being allowed to take a porn star to his prom; to this: Victoria's Secret ads in store fronts directly across from Build-a-Bear shops. What's wrong is that almost all of us accept that shopping malls display porn ads directly across from children's stores as 'the norm'.
It's wrong because it:
conveys a wrong message to our young girls of what they should 'look like',
teaches our young men that this is the kind of girl they should find,
is one step away from more explicit pornography,
feeds the demand for sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
Let's collectively use our voices to begin a conversation about how unacceptable this truly is. For our daughters and sons - the next generation - let's start the conversation!
